Gordon Martin

Gordon graduated with an LLB (Hons) from the University of Glasgow in 1981, and obtained a Diploma in Legal Practice from the same institution in 1982. Following his traineeship, he became a Procurator Fiscal Depute and worked at Airdrie between July 1984 and September 1985.

In October 1985 Gordon joined C-A Petrie & Company in Dunfermline, becoming a partner in 1987. In 1990, Gordon left to join More & Company, Criminal lawyers based in Dunfermline. He was elevated to partner in April 1991. Gordon remained a partner there until 1998 when he left to found Martin, Johnston & Socha, a firm of criminal solicitors based in Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy. Gordon has been the managing partner/director there since October 2010.

Gordon called to the bar as a Solicitor Advocate in 1997 and became a Senior Solicitor Advocate in 2009.

Gordon was a member of the Law Society of Scotland’s Criminal Law Committee for a period of on or about a year and is currently a member of the Law Society of Scotland Criminal Legal Aid Committee and is involved as a member of the legal aid negotiating team. In addition, Gordon is a member of the SSC and a Notary Public.

Gordon has been involved in solely criminal court work since April 1990 and prior to that had a mixed practice of court work of which at least 80% was crime.

Gordon's areas of expertise involve representing clients in connection with money laundering/proceeds of crime matters, road traffic offences, sexual offences, offences involving the internet and all other areas of criminal law. Gordon has been involved in fatal accident enquiries in the past and has been instructed in a number of murder Trials and was instructed for one of the principal accused in Scotland’s longest ever running paedophile ring Trial.
