FBO imposed after trouble in city bar

Older drink drivers on the increase

The equivalent of one person over the age of 50 was charged with drink driving every hour in 2012, according to new research by car insurer swiftcover.com. The study reveals that there has also been a 20% increase in drink driving amongst the over 80s since 2010.

Domestic abuse reports surge

New statistics published this week indicate that 60,080 domestic abuse incidents were reported to the police across the country in 2012-13. Overall, the number of domestic abuse incidents resulting in a report being submitted to the procurator fiscal have increased significantly from 2003-2004, where only 51% of cases were reported to the fiscal, to 78% last year.

Uninsured and unlicensed drivers targeted

Nearly two hundred drivers were caught last week in a Police Scotland initiative targeting unlicensed and uninsured drivers. As part of the initiative, the police used powers under Section 165A of The Road Traffic Act 1988, which allows them to seize the vehicles of motorists caught driving without insurance or a licence.
