Earlier this week, at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, a Fife man was fined £400 and had a 18 month Football Banning Order imposed in connection with an incident with rival fans before a match between Raith Rovers and Dunfermline Athletic.

Football Banning Orders (FBOs) were introduced in Scotland in 2006 and can be imposed by a court when a person is found guilty of an offence which is football related. An FBO can be made where the court is satisfied:

- That the person was aged 16 or over at the time of the offence.

- That the offence involved violence or disorder.

- That the offence related to a football match.

- That there are reasonable grounds to believe that making the order will help prevent violence or disorder at or in connection with any football matches.

The Banning Order means that as well as the fine imposed by the court, the man has been banned from all regulated football matches throughout the whole of the United Kingdom for a period of one and a half years.
