Man Charged Over Near Miss on A9

A man has been charged following a “near miss” being caught on camera on the A9.

The incident, which occurred at a junction on the A9 was uploaded to Youtube and showed a near miss with one driver driving recklessly. The clip showed a lorry driving too close to a van that could have led to a serious accident.

The 43-year-old driver did not stop or pull over following the incident.

A spokesman for Police Scotland’s Highlands and Islands Division said: “Following enquiries in to video footage of a lorry on the A9 at the Tomich junction, a 43-year-old man has been reported to the procurator fiscal.

“Police would like to remind road users to be vigilant when driving, especially when approaching or negotiating busy junctions.”

A9 Dangers

The clip was released despite Police stating that improved cameras and the introduction of average speed cameras was making a significant impact on the number of incidents seen on roads.

According to the A9 safety group the 27 cameras introduced on the A9 had lowered speeding and reduced accidents with speeding down by 97%. There has been some criticism regarding the cameras however, Many have suggested that it was the dangerous turns on the road and the pilot of allowing lorries to drive at 50mph also in place on the road that was causing the vast majority of accidents.
