Police Make Over 2000 Arrests During “Serious Crime” Clampdown

More than 2100 arrests were made during 2015 as part of a clampdown against serious and organised criminal activity

The news comes despite a warning that some crimes in Scotland were becoming more common in the country. Sexual crimes and violent crimes had risen according to the latest report from Police Scotland watchdogs. Police Scotland have cited issues with detecting organised criminals with many organisations using technology to avoid detection.

However, although there was an increase in such crimes, Police Scotland have stated that they have had much success when tackling crime in the country.

Tackling Organised and Serious Crime in Scotland

In the last 12 months, Police Scotland have made a total of 2,107 arrests linked to organised crime with 122 people who were arrested by officers being seen as principal players in serious and organised criminal activity.

Almost 4,000 people are members of crime groups being monitored by law enforcement agencies in Scotland, with 70% of groups located in the west of Scotland. There was also a noted increase in the number of under 18-year-olds involved in serious crime.
