Police Scotland have been criticised in the Scottish Parliament for failing to disclose a crime report.
The police were expected to publish an update on serious crime figures prior to the General Election but have opted to wait until after the votes have been cast. The Police are blaming a serious IT error for the failure in producing a report.
Figures on sexual abuse, race hate, drugs, gun offences and other serious crimes were expected to be made public last month.
"Sensible Decision"
Police Scotland have stated that they opted to delay the announcement of crime figures as it was the sensible thing to do in order to remain impartial to politics in the build-up to the election, however, some have branded the decision a “convenience” for the SNP as it fails to show how the Government are tackling crime.
The decision to delay the report comes following criticism over the figures and the decision in general regarding stop-and-search of children and others in Scotland, with many seeing such practice as ineffective and not needed.
Police Scotland said they were still working to create a single IT network to replace those used by the old regional forces, and were working hard to “resolve these data collection issues as quickly as possible”.
