Scottish Crime Recording “Good” According to Independent Crime Audit

Police Scotland have received praise from Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary in Scotland (HMICS) as figures revealed that the quality of most crime recording was "good" according to the Crime Audit 2014.

The audit marked the largest investigation into crime in by the HMICS with results being positive for Police Scotland with 97% of crimes being recorded within 72 hours of them being reported.

Still Room For Improvement

Despite the positives, HMICS found that there was still room for improvement in certain aspects of reporting crime.

The report found that the vast majority of sexual offence cases and violent offences were recorded and closed correctly. Despite the high average, the report concluded that there were still issues when it came to reporting violent crimes in relation to serious assaults, robberies and attempted murders.

The report on the state of Scottish Crime was warmly welcomed by Police Scotland who saw the audit as a way to measure their policing targets and to focus on areas of improvement.

Deputy Chief Constable Rose Fitzpatrick said: “The report will assist us in continuing to ensure that no matter where you live in Scotland, communities can be assured when they contact the police, the information they provide and the response we deliver will be the correct one and it will be managed in the most professional way."
