Edinburgh Postcode Hotspot for Robberies in Scotland

An area of Edinburgh has been found to be the worst area for robberies in Scotland following analysis from over 2.7 million homes.

Residents of Balerno, Currie and Juniper Green in Edinburgh were the most likely to be victims of a burglary, with the most insurance claims for theft in the last year.

Suburbs of Cities Dominate

The survey, which was conducted through insurance claims from MoneySupermarket, found that areas in Edinburgh and Glasgow were the most burglary-prone with Anniesland and Newton Mearns in Glasgow rounding off the top three.

On average, those living in a more “at risk” area for burglaries will pay almost 7% more on their insurance coverage.

“Make Home Safe As Possible”

Mark Castle, chief executive of the charity Victim Support, said: "As a charity that supports thousands of burglary victims each year, we know how devastating an impact this crime can have and we are here to help.

"Victims tell us that they suffer far more than material loss when their home is burgled - the psychological impact of this crime can be drastic, long-lasting and different for everyone."

Kevin Pratt of Moneysupermarket said: “Edinburgh postcodes dominate the top burglary claim hotspots in Scotland, with other high claim areas around Glasgow’s suburbs.

“Everyone needs to be conscious of the threat and make their home as safe and secure as possible.”

15% of Scots has been involved in, or knows someone who has been involved in a burglary in the last five years.
