Provisional licence holder banned after car crash

A Hamilton man has been banned from driving after being involved in a car crash at a time when he did not hold a full driving licence, reports the BBC.

Peter Cairney pled guilty to charges of driving carelessly and driving with a provisional licence without supervision or displaying “L” plates on his car.

The accident occurred on the A74(M) in July last year. Cairney, who was not intending to drive that day, was returning from holiday with his wife and daughter. His other daughter was to have picked them up but failed to do so and as a result Cairney decided to drive his family home.

He was driving the range rover along the A74(M) when the car struck the central reservation and then slammed into a bridge support.

Cairney was seriously injured in the accident and his wife and daughter also required hospital treatment for their injuries.

He received a ban from driving for 32 months and a fine of £540.
